Sale! Gunkanjima, which was registered as a World Heritage Site in July 2015 as part of the “Sites of Japan’s Meiji Industrial Revolution”, is the common name for an island located about 19km southwest of Nagasaki Port.
Coal was discovered there in the late Edo period, and from 1890 it began operating as an undersea coal mine, supplying high-quality raw coal for steelmaking.
The island is surrounded by walls and lined with high-rise apartment buildings, and its appearance resembles the battleship “Tosa”, hence the name “Gunkanjima”. This ink expresses
the brown-gray of Gunkanjima lit up by the sunset.
